While we love traditional paper books in this house, we also love e-books. But e-books can be a bit expensive. Unfortunately my library system doesn’t have the option to check out books through the Kindle, etc. like some others do, but I’ve found the next best thing.
Yes, you could search Amazon and Barnes & Noble every day for free kid’s e-books, but my time is precious. This blog has at least one post a day with free books for kids. Now, this is every age from baby to teen, but they DO categorize them by age to help. We’ve found some great books with this.
I use Thunderbird for my mail and I use their news reader for this. It essentially adds a folder that treats the blog posts as messages. I can always see when there is a new post, and I can either act on downloading that book right then (usually a good idea as they don’t stay free forever) or I can mark it to look at later.
Sometimes the deals are so-so, like a $0.99 book for free. Other times there are GREAT deals. One I snagged the other day (that, as of this posting is still free) is a collection of 5 early readers. It’s usually $6.99:

Most of the books from Pixel of Ink do seem to be for the Kindle, but I have (very rarely) seen books for the Nook as well. I have a Nook, but have the Kindle app loaded on to it so I get the best of both worlds ![]()
